Six Inmates Allegedly Beaten To Death By Kwara Prison Officials

There was chaos on Thursday at the Oke Kura prison, Illorin, Kwara state, after some prison officials allegedly beat six inmates from the condemned cell to death, after they protested on the poor quality of food given to them.

It was gathered that the inmates requested to see the Comptroller General of Prisons so he could address their grieviences, but the request was shunned by the warders.

On Thursday, the inmates embarked on a protest in order to draw the attention of the Comptroller, unfortunately for them, the warders who were visibly angry over their protest, got the arms squad and unleashed terror on the prisoners.

Five of the inmates died on the spot and one of the 12 casualties died in the hospital, while the other person’s were receiving treatment at the hospital.

The attack has created a lot of tension in the air. Some of the dead victims were identified as Alhaji Faddish, Alhaji Yusuf, and Jeunlo.

Reacting to the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ilorin Prison, Mr Philip, denied the incident.

He said, “How is it possible for warders to beat inmates to death? It is not true and no such thing happened. If you’re in doubt, come down to Ilorin, I will personally lead you to Oke Kura to see things for yourself.”
