South Korean President, Park Guen-hye Impeached

The South Korean president, Park Guen-hye, has been impeached.

The impeachment comes after the South Korea’s Constitutional Court presided over by Justice Lee Jung-mi upheld the decision made by the National Assembly to impeach the female president.

The unanimous decision to impeach the president garnered the vote of all eight judges in the court.

Park Guen-hye’s impeachment makes her the first South Korean President to be impeached from office.

With the impeachment taking effect immediately, the country is expected to conduct an election to replace the impeached leader within 60 days.

The impeachment was announced by the presiding judge during a live, national broadcast.
