Stripped of Rights, Locked out of Hostels, Unilag Student Decries ‘Animal’ Treatment

2 Min Read

According to BellaNaija, a Unilag student has sent an email decrying the struggles that students of Unilag are going through at the moment.

You would recall that Unilag sent all their students home after protests over living conditions and light and water. The students were allowed back into school under strict conditions.

Some of these conditions have been seen as harsh and difficult to cover according to students.

You can see the email posted on Bellanaija from the student below.

Good morning, I’m a student of Unilag who has been put in a cage and stripped of my Right to life which is an extension of the Right to education and good living conditions.
It’s as though we’re animals or worst still slaves. What have we done wrong? Students are no longer safe, no priority is placed on our security. I truly fear for what the future may hold. A school that would let their students sleep outside, open to all vices of nature.
This is getting too much. Please, please and please, give us a mouth and a platform. Write about this inhumane act, sound the gong for nations to see what’s going on within the walls of the so called “Nations Pride”.
Are we supposed to start exams on Monday when people who were squatting aren’t even allowed in to pick their books?!
