The Nigerian jersey unveiled by Guinness Nigeria was recently awarded the certificate for the world’s largest football jersey.

While speaking to newsmen yesterday, Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mr. Seni Adetu, disclosed this at his company’s head office.

The jersey measures 294.2ft or 89.67m (length) and 241.3ft or 73.55m (wide) and was part of Guinness’ Fly with the Eagles campaign in support of the reigning African champions.

It was unveiled at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos and the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Adetu said it is a case of double joy for the nation.

“We are elated as a company to have greatly contributed to these successes, putting Nigeria on the world map once again with this feat. Initially, there were doubts as to whether we had broken the world record when we started out.

“However, today, I am proud to present to you the Guinness World Record Certificate for the largest football shirt in the world proving that we actually did break the world record,” Adetu said.

On the authenticity of the record, the Marketing and Innovation Director, Mr. Austin Ufomba, said everything was done to meet the requirements for the Guinness Book of World Records.

“The jersey was measured by the quantity surveying firm, Billings Cost Associates and vetted by renowned audit firm, Alexander Forbes. So there was no issue on the claims,” Ufomba assured.

The Guinness Nigeria Plc MD said that his company’s five-year-old support for the NFF and the senior national team was still intact and ongoing.
