Surprise: Highest-Paid African Footballer In The World Isn’t Yaya Toure

2 Min Read

Cote d’Ivoire and Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure is unarguably one of the best players in Africa and indeed the world.

In fact, so great is the footballer’s influence in African football that he won the CAF African Player of the Year award four times in a row, and only missed out narrowly on a fifth to Gabon international, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

While he dominates proceedings on the field of play perhaps better than any other African player, he doesn’t earn the most as had previously been believed.

According to a list of the top-earning footballers in the world compiled by respected UK paper, Daily Mirror, Yaya Toure sits two places below Ghanaian forward, Asamoah Gyan who now plies his trade with Chinese Super League team Shanghai SIPG.
