Suspected Fulani herdsmen yesterday struck Coromo and two other villages in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, killing about 12 persons with about 18 others wounded.

According to local sources, the persons killed in the attack included seven men, two women and children.

Sources further confirmed that 13 houses were razed during the attack which was reported to have started as a result of a long standing dispute over farmlands.

The attack was reported to have occurred at night when the suspected herdsmen raided the Tivs who had returned to farm on their lands. Natives were reported to have fled the community in their hundreds seeking refuge in neighboring villages while some other ran to the Gassol B Police Divisional headquarters for their safety.

Although the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joseph Kwaji, was unavailable to confirm the news as at press time, sources within the police headquarters confirmed the incident.
