Ailing Taraba State Governor, Danbaba Suntai, who was moved from Germany to the United States is said to be intensive care at the John Hopkins Hospital.

Suntai is believed to have sustained brain injuries when his plane crashed in October, last year just outside Yola, Adamawa State. He was rushed to Germany where he had been until the Chief Medical Director of the Taraba State Specialist Hospital, Prof Zakari Aliyu raised an alarm over the alleged poor state of the German hospital and the plight of the governor.

Prof Aliyu had been summoned by the Taraba State House of Assembly to explain why he went public with the governor’s health challenges. At the session at the House of Assembly, Aliyu, who doubles as the chief consultant who oversees the personal physician to the governor, explained that the governor suffered from three health problems and was not fit to return to the state soon.

A reliable source in New York in the United States revealed that the governor had been placed in the intensive care unit of the Boston-based hospital since arriving a few days ago with his medical teams from Nigeria and Germany.

An official of the hospital confirmed on phone that he was brought down to the hospital under a critical health condition and that that the ailing governor has brain injury. However, he added that he is at present in a stable condition as a result of the treatment that he has received.
The source also said that Governor Suntai could not talk or recognise anyone now but noted that every effort was being deployed to ensure that the governor’s health was brought back to normal.

He said: “We have seen more critical cases in the past which we have brought under control, so I can assure you that the patient you are asking about will soon regain his consciousness because we have the best medical team here which has taken over his case since he was brought to the hospital.”

The source further said that the medical team in the American hospital had discovered other serious ailments with the governor during several tests conducted on him, adding that as soon as the findings were concluded, their details would be made available to pressmen.
