Tears as Boko Haram kills five UNIMAID staff, four missing

Five members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Maiduguri chapter, have reportedly been killed by members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

The disclosure was made by the staff union of the institution in a statement released to mourn the loss of their colleagues.

The five staff of the institution who lost their lives in an attack carried out by the terrorist sect include two geologists, two technologist and a driver.

The men were reported to have been killed on Tuesday while four are still missing.

Confirming the attack, the Chairman of the university chapter of the association, Dr Danny Manmam, while speaking in Maiduguri identified two of the victims of the attack to be one Ibrahim Yusuf and Aji Kolo.

Another victims who has since been buried on Thursday is Idris Abubakar Njodi.

Manmam while speaking on the attack which occurred after insurgents ambushed a military escort and oil workers traveling in a convoy of about 10 vehicles at a village along Gubio and Magumeri local government area said: “We were first elated when we heard that the military rescued the victims. But, to our dismay we discovered that they were all killed. Our initial hope to see them alive was dashed. The soldiers brought only dead bodies.”

He added: “Four other staff are still missing and we are seriously concerned about their safety, we do not know their whereabouts.”
