Tensions were high in Kogi state as the recent spate of political unrest continued with an attack on a senator by some thugs in the state.

The Senator, representing Kogi central senatorial district, Ahmed Ogembe was having an empowerment program in Okene, when the thugs, numbering 20, stormed the place and injuring loads of supporters.

Ogembe, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator had organised the empowerment programme where no fewer than 1000 women across the five local government areas in the senatorial districts were billed to benefit.

According to reports, the thugs assembled at about 8:00am, trashing the place and inflicting injuries on many of the supporters, but they were dispersed after security personnel came on the scene

Ogembe still went on to hold the empowerment program with better security at the same venue.

Speaking to the beneficiaries and his supporters, the senator said that the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, was not at fault for the attack, rather those who wanted to impress the governor were the people responsible for the attack.

Ogembe said on his empowerment scheme, “Today’s event is a microcosm credit scheme for women and disbursement of 20,000 naira each to 1,200 women cutting across the five local government councils of Kogi central as direct beneficiaries of the second phase of my empowerment scheme”.
