Police said on Wednesday that a Thai woman who overdosed on sleeping pills and other medication on Facebook Live was saved in time by police who were alerted by her friends on the social network.

The police told dpa that the 31-year-old woman was found unconscious in her home in a suburb near Bangkok after police and rescue officials were tipped off by her friends late Tuesday that she was overdosing on sleeping pills and other medication.

Facebook has come under fire following several disturbing Facebook Live videos posted by users that were left online for hours, including that of a Thai man who hanged his infant daughter before killing himself, a US man who shot and killed a 74-year-old passer-by and the live-streamed rape of a Swedish woman.

In May, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg announced that the social media giant would hire 3,000 employees over the next year to review and remove offensive content posted by users.

Hospital staff said, the Thai woman was taken to hospital and is recuperating, hospital staff said.

According to police and the woman’s Facebook friends, in the live video the woman complained about health problems and being blocked on Facebook by two close friends.

The video was deleted soon after the incident.(dpa/NAN)
