Two Boys Allegedly Flog Superintendent of Police With Belt, Charged to Court

Two brothers identified as Abubakar Bello and Sikiru Bello  aged 16 and 19 have been arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Igbosere, Lagos along with a 33-year-old woman Risikat Arowolo for conspiracy and assault on two police personnel Chief Superintendent Onojaife Kent and  Superintendent Nwaimo Christopher.

The accused’ were alleged to have committed the said offences on the 10th February at the Macarthy Police Barracks in Lagos Island. Interestingly the victims of the assault live in the same premises as the accused as detailed by the Police Prosecutor Sgt Peace Chukwudi.

“The accused assaulted the police officers by beating them with a belt and pushing them in the drainage.” said the prosecutor.

Both brothers have pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge filed against them. The sentence for assault on a police officer carries a term of three years behind bars while the offence of conspiracy fetches a perpetrator two years in jail.

The Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya while adjourning the matter to March 14,  granted the accused bail in the sum of N 50,000 each with a surety to stand for each accused. He ordered the sureties to tender their statement of accounts with the banks they patronize as well as evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
