Typing ‘BFF’ On Facebook Does Not Secure your Account, Nasty Rumour Debunked

2 Min Read

You may have come across a message on Facebook that says something along the lines of ‘type ‘BFF’ in a comment and if it turns green your account is safe’

The messages actually read more like this;

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, invented the word BFF. To make sure your account is safe on Facebook, type BFF in a comment. If it appears green, your account is protected. If it does not appear green, change your password immediately because it will be hacked.

Make sure you do not think about your page or account
Type Bff in a comment
If it appears green, your account is protected and if it appears normal, you must change the password. Try it

Don’t try it

While it hasn’t been determined if there are any malicious intents to this particular message, what’s sure is that this is completely false or if you’d prefer ‘fake news’

According to thatssononsense.com, what actually happens is that BFF, which means Best Friends Forever, is in a special class of words chosen by Facebook which lights up and becomes a little animated when typed and is NOT an indicator to your account being hacked by anyone.

So for anyone who’s passed it along or shared, let people know that this is a hoax.
