Uber, Taxify Drivers Now Make More Than Bankers

Drivers working for ride sharing companies are reportedly now making more than bankers, and other staff of blue chip companies in the country.

According to a survey of drivers on the Uber and Taxify platforms in Lagos, they are currently earning between N100,000 to N150,000 a week due to demand and the efficiency of the technology.

In a month, many drivers can easily clear between N400,000 to N600,000 in gross earnings, after the ride hailing companies have taken their commissions. The only other operational cost to the drivers is the cost of maintaining the vehicle and the cost of fuel.

Many drivers on the platform use fuel-efficient cars and even hybrids in other to boost savings on fuel. Also comprehensive insurance ensures any major repair expenditure is borne by the insurance company and not out of pocket.

In some of the biggest banks in Nigeria, some employees earn as little as N86,000 per month, and most employees don’t earn more than N150k per month.

On an annual basis, the compensation of a Taxify driver can more than quadruple that of the average banker.

So think of that next time, you want to be salty with a professional Uber driver.
