The senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has taken to his social media page to blast the Nigerian Senate and is members for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

The senator took to his Facebook page to accuse members of the Nigerian senate of voting to protect their interest in the country rather than the interest of the masses.

Recall that on July 26, the Nigerian Senate conducted a vote to make some changes to the 1999 Constitutions.

He took to his Facebook page to write:

“My observation during the constitutional amendment is that many parliamentarians didn’t vote in line with their conscience or national interest;most voted in line with their sectional, religious, ethnic or political interests.”

The Senator who has come under heavy criticism for anti-party activities further added on his social media page: “Many are first more interested in preserving their mini thrones of power than saving the country or making it better. They fear more of what may befall them than what may befall their country.

“Consequence is the compass of their thumb.”

  • The Nigeria House of Representatives yesterday, Voted on the on-going constitutional amendments of 19999 constitution. I feel disappointed and I am sure Nigerians too feel same. We can all see how immature many of them are by refusing to vote in Favour of Local government authonomy. The noise they made before being persuaded to vote in favor of age limitation. Their conduct yesterday showed how deeply dependent they are on their state governors for any decision they take. They behave like state houses of assembly members who take directives from state governors instead of f pure legislative functions of check and balance. The governors who want to continue to embezzle Local government allocations, l believe instructed these puppet house members to vote against an important issue like Local government authonomy . It’s a shame . The Senators have lived up to their maturity and responsibility, l now bet the critics of the Senate to look at the actual arm of the legislature for condemnation not the Senate.
