Website Showing Movie Actors Facing Sexual Assault Allegations Launched

Rotten Apples, a not-for-profit website created to help movie lovers determine which movies feature actors that are facing sexual assault allegations, has been launched.

The website, which is not to be mistaken for Rotten Tomatoes (the movie review website), was launched in the wake of sexual harassment and assault allegations that have hit Hollywood since dozens of actresses accused movie mogul Harvey Weinstein in October of inappropriate sexual behaviour towards them.

Since the Weinstein revelations, many other men in the entertainment industry – Kevin Spacey, Mario Batali, James Toback, Ed Westwick – have also faced sexual harassment or assault allegations.

According to its creators, Rotten Apples, which was launched on Tuesday, “informs users which films or television shows are connected to those accused of sexual harassment or worse.”

Observers say the project would help promote “ethical movie consumption”.

The New York Times reported that the website reported at least 500,000 searches within the first 50 hours of launching.
