Arsenal averted a defeat in Belgium on Wednesday, they were lucky to come back from one goal down in the 89 minute to snatch home three points from Belgian side Anderlecht.

All hope seemed lost for the Gunners in yesterday’s Champions League  Group D fixture, after a very acute first half at Constant Vanden Stock, Anderlecht took the lead in the 71st minute with a Dennis Praet cross headed in by Andy Najar.

Kieran Gibbs was on board in the 89th minute to equalize for Arsenal and Lukas Podolski’s close range shot in the stoppage time sealed the victory.

The surprise win was just about the perfect gift to coach Arsene Wenger who celebrated his 65th birthday.

The Frenchman praised Arsenal for such remarkable victory.

“We kept going and scored two good goals,” Wenger said.

“We had the spirit. It was vital for us to have the chance to qualify.

“We are in a strong position now because Galatasaray and Anderlecht have only one point. It’s down to us to win our home games and we are through.”

Arsenal now has 6 points from 3 games and are in second place, 3 points behind Bor Dortmd who stands at 9 points from 3 matches.

The Gunners will face Bor Dortmond next month and Wenger believes Arsenal are up to the task ahead .

“Dortmund can be a tough opponent,” Wenger admitted.
‘It’s in our hands,’ he added.
“Let’s just qualify and then we will see how far we can go.”
