Wife Begs Court For Divorce To Save Children From Starvation

A mother of two, Memunat Ibrahim, on Wednesday urged an Okuta Area Court in Kwara to dissolve her six-year-old marriage to her husband, Ado, to save the children from hunger.

Memunat , who accused the husband of not caring for the family, said the dissolution would enable her to seek means of feeding the two children.

“I cannot continue to live in hunger. My husband is irresponsible; he never bothered about what we eat, what we wear and how we survive,” she said.

The petitioner said that her husband had not been able to feed and clothe members of his immediate family – herself and two children in the union contracted in 2010.

In his response, Ado refuted his wife`s allegations of being irresponsible.

Ado, however, told the court that the estranged wife could not manage the meagre resources made available to her because of the prevailing economic challenges.

“It was not like this from the beginning. It is the economic challenges that affect our means of survival and this affects everybody in the country,” Ado said.

He urged the court to grant him more time to engage in a reconciliatory move with the petitioner.

The respondent said that he still loved the wife and their children.

“I will buckle up and ensure that things are back to normal,” he said.

In his ruling, the Presiding Judge, Mr Ahmed Yahaya, adjourned the petition till March 23 for report of possible reconciliation. (NAN)
