The Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Seyi Akinwumi, has assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles will defeat the Chipolopolo of Zambia in the return leg of the 2018 World Cup qualifier which will be played in Uyo in October.

He said this while speaking with journalists in Osogbo on the sidelines of the final of Ogunjobi Golden Cup to celebrate the 60th birthday of a former Secretary General of NFF, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi. Akinwumi said the NFF was impressed with the performance of the Super Eagles in all the World Cup qualifying games played which earned the team 10 points from four matches.

He said the Super Eagles, who recorded three wins and one draw with the Indomitable Lions in Yaounde would not underrate the Zambian, who they defeated on their home but would work harder to ensure a total victory in their next match.

Akinwumi said, “The NFF is impressed with the performance of the Super Eagles. They defeated the Indomitable Lions here and went to play a draw in Yaounde. They deserved to win that match.

“The coaching crew of the Super Eagles had assured the federation of their determination to do everything possible to pick the sole World Cup ticket in the group. The Zambian may camp anywhere in Europe but the match will be played here and it is not going to be played in Europe. The players have assured us of their determination to pick the ticket and that is what that is important now.”
