The Zamfara State Government says it will give priority to internally generated revenue to enable it implement its proposed 2017 budget.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, stated this on Monday in Gusau while speaking to newsmen after defending the 2017 proposed budget of his office at the State House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the State Governor, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yari, had last week presented a budget proposal of over N107 billion for the 2017 fiscal year.

Shinkafi noted that apart from expectations from the Federal Government allocation, the state government required other sources of income to enable it carry out various developmental projects proposed in the budget.

“We are planning to come up with new policies and measures to improve our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“We have a lot to carryout in our proposed budget. We cannot rely on expectations from the Federal Government’s monthly allocation; we have to come up with possible measures to improve our revenue,” he said.

According to the SSG, some of the major projects proposed in 2017 by his office were the construction and renovation of government offices, procurement of utility vehicles and implementation of workers annual increments and promotions.

He, therefore, appealed to the people to continue to support government’s programmes and policies that would move the state forward. (NAN)
