10 Killed, 15 Injured By Fulani Herdsmen In Nassarawa

No fewer than 10 people have been feared dead while 15 others have been critically injured in a recent attack by Fulani herdsmen on two communities in Nassarawa State.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday at Iga and Rutu communities in Nassarawa Eggon and Doma local government areas, respectively, between 2.00 p.m and 4.00 p.m.

A source who craved anonymity, disclosed that the Fulanis’ numbering over 50 stormed the communities through the bush and started destroying any property in sight, killing eight inhabitants of the area majority of who were said to be farmers.

“Nobody was aware of the attack. Some of us were under the tree and suddenly we heard some people screaming, shouting, and calling for help. By then, the whole community was in confusion commotion, and everybody needed to run and hide somewhere” the source said.

It was gathered that the herdsmen came prepared as they were heavily armed with guns, knives, and axes.

At Rutu village in Doma Local Government, a middle-aged man who was an Eggon by tribe and farmer was shot alongside his son as he tried to move out some of their belongings from the community.

According to eyewitness reports, the deceased and his son had successfully packed some of the belongings and were trying to escape on a motorcycle when the assailants sprayed them with bullets.

The corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, the state capital.
