1,224 Dead People Turn up in Adamawa Voters List – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that it discovered no less than 1, 224 dead individuals in the voters list for Adamawa State.

The electoral commission revealed this during a two day workshop for Election Monitoring Implementers for the North East Zone, in Yola.

According to the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa state, Kassim Gaidam, the names were uncovered through the voter clean-up exercise in the state.

“The statistics of 1,224 dead persons, which we can confirm were on the register, were uncovered during the recent display of voter register for claims and objections,” he said.

INEC further disclosed that in Enugu state, it had distributed permanent voter cards to 1,504,858 people in the state.

According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Emeka Ononamadu, INEC was worried about the violence that erupted within political parties after primaries were held.

He described the violence as worrisome, saying such violent situations had never featured in local politics in Enugu before.

He added further that INEC was optimistic that such ugly incidents would not be witnessed in the next year’s general elections.

He also disclosed that the total number of registered voters in the state was 1,958,547 while noting that out of the fresh registration of 14,551,482 voters in the country, the state registered 549,326.
