Following the controversial police raid on the Lakers County nightclub in Ikorodu area of Lagos state, the State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has ordered the withdrawal of the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, Akineyem Etuk.

He is being withdrawn to the headquarters to ensure unimpeded investigation into his role in the said raid.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, was quoted as saying “The CP has directed that the OC Anti-Cultism Unit to be withdrawn from his beat to the police headquarters to enable investigators determine his role in the entire raid on the club.

“All the officers involved in the raid are undergoing interrogation at the Command’s X-Squad Section; so, he (Etuk) has been withdrawn to the command to enable those investigating the matter to determine if he properly supervised his men during the raid.”

It will be recalled that a media report described how a closed-circuit television footage provided by the club’s management exposed the invasion by the officers from the Anti-Cultism Unit. The officers were said to have  seized from the club’s customers and workers valuables and cash running into several millions of naira.

The CP vowed that the command would never cover up for any officer, who breached the standard operating procedure of the force while carrying out their duties, adding that at the end of the ongoing investigation, it would inform members of the public of the outcome of the probe.

The command had arrested 13 out of the 19 police operatives who raided the club for unprofessional conduct.
