Two children have died in a car crash during wild weather conditions across north-eastern Australia caused by an incoming cyclone.

“The children died in a single-vehicle accident at Peaks Crossing near Brisbane in Queensland on Monday,’’ emergency officials told newsmen.

Paramedics said a woman in her 30s was airlifted to hospital and another child was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Cyclone Trevor is causing traffic chaos in several areas.

Half a dozen vehicles, including a bus, piled up near Jindalee Bridge outside Brisbane.

Four people were injure, while police reported another crash on the Riverside Expressway.

Police said that the accidents took place as heavy rain, massive hail and strong wind battered the region.

Queensland Police also said storms have caused some power outages on Brisbane’s Northside with many intersections with traffic lights out.

Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning of damaging winds, severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall with Cyclone Trevor expected to make landfall on Tuesday as a category three storm in northern Queensland coast, near the Great Barrier Reef. (dpa/NAN)
