A Sharia Court in Kaduna on Monday sentenced two labourers Audu Magaji, 28, and Alhassan Tafar, 23, to 6 months imprisonment each, for causing grievous hurt to one Najib Hassan.

The Judge, Alhaji Aminu Jumare, sentenced them on a four- count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal force, causing hurt and theft, after they had pleaded guilty.

Jumare, however, did not give the convicts who reside in Mekera Rigasa Village, Kaduna, any option of fine but warned them to desist from committing crimes.

He said the punishment would have been stiffer if the defendants had not saved the court the pains of protracted prosecution by admitting committing the offence.

He added that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others in the act of crime.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Shehu Abdullahi, told the court that Hassan of Bakin Dogo Market reported the matter at the Sabon Gari Police Station, Kaduna, on April 5.

Abdullahi said the complainant reported that on that day, while he was coming back from work, the convicts and one Dan Yellow now at large attacked him.

The prosecutor said that during the attack, the convicts demanded that the complainant should surrender all his belongings to them but he resisted.

“When the complainant resisted, the convicts used a cutlass to hit him on his head, hand and leg and he sustained serious injuries.

Abdullahi added that the convicts forcefully collected the complainant’s mobile phone.

He said the offence contravened Sections 59, 237, 214 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State. (NAN)
