No fewer than two persons died in a fire outbreak caused by a fuel tanker which fell at the Ijesha axis of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway on Monday evening in Lagos.

The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasaq Fadipe, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Fadipe said that the tanker fell and caused a heavy spillage on the eight lanes expressway which resulted in the fire outbreak.

He said that the accident happened at Ijesha, adding that the content spilled into the drainage, which made it difficult for fire service officials to put out the fire on time.

“Two dead bodies were found in the truck after fire-fighting operation.

“The road side market at Ijesha was partially affected, while two trailers and the fuel tanker got burnt,’’ NAN quotes Fadipe as saying.

He said that six trucks of water were deployed by fire fighters to put out the inferno.

Fadipe said that the incident also created heavy traffic on both sides of the road.

He noted that men of the fire service were able to put out the fire after more than an hour battle. (NAN)
