2 men steal vehicle brain box in front of church
Two men who allegedly stole a vehicle brain box valued at N300,000 in front of a church were on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused are Wasiu Odugbemi, 50, a driver who resides at 35, Adebayo St., Alakuko; and Adegbenro Akinsege, 35, a mechanic who resides at Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on Aug. 19, at Oba Akran Road, Ikeja.
Akeem said that the complainant, one Mr Emmanuel Odiagbe, parked his bus in front of a church and went for evening service.
“Before Odiagbe returned to where he parked his bus, the vehicle had been damaged, and he discovered that the bus brain box, valued N300, 000, had been removed.
“The complainant suspected the accused persons because they were there when he parked the bus, and their faces were looking suspicious,’’ he said.
Akeem said that the accused could not be found at the scene, but with the help of other church members and the vigilance group, they were traced and apprehended.
“When the accused were apprehended by the vigilance group, they owned up to the crime.
“They were later brought to the police station,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Adeyemi –Ajayi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
