The 90-year-old chieftain of pan-Yoruba sociocultural group Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has called on Nigerians to ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration is voted out in 2019.

Adebanjo made this known at the 80th birthday ceremony of former Secretary to the Federal Government, Chief Olu Falae in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Friday.

The nonagenarian said that the APC has proved in three and half years that it has nothing to offer Nigerians and so does not deserve to be returned to power in the 2019 general election.

He said the only politicians that deserve the vote of Nigerians were the ones that could change the negatives in the nation to positives and the APC does not have such politicians in its fold.

Adebanjo said, “Anything that will get rid of the APC should be done. It must be done at the local, state and federal levels. The APC has failed the nation and it must be shown the way out.”

However, the APC has kicked against Adebanjo’s calls for Nigerians to vote against the party.

The acting National Publicity Secretary of APC, Yekini Nabena urged Nigerians to return it to power if they desire progress.

According to him, only the APC could rescue Nigeria from the 16 years of misrule perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nabena noted that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has repositioned Nigeria and given the nation a sense of direction.

He said, “Our appeal to Nigerians — especially those who love the progress of this country — is for them to keep faith with our party. When you look around, you will attest to the fact that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration has done well. It has repositioned Nigeria for the better. In just three years this administration has given Nigeria a better sense of direction.”
