Nigeria's main opposition candidate Muhammadu Buhari on Friday told AFP he was expecting to win next week's presidential election by a wide margin, despite talk of a close race. The February 14 poll, in which he is challenging incumbent Goodluck Jonathan, has been seen as too close to call, leading to a possible run-off if neither man secures a first-round majority. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Professor Ben Nwabueze has warned that President Muhammad Buhari’s second term presidential agenda in 2019 can lead to the collapse of Nigeria if successful.

“If President Buhari is given a second term in office, God forbid that he should ever get a second term, Nigeria will cease to exist, except in the sense in which Zaire under (late) Mobutu (Sese Seko) existed. That is as an idea without existential content, a state existing only in name or the map as a mere geographical expression.”

According to him, Nigeria under the current administration has become a failed state due to failure to provide security and welfare for the people of Nigeria. He further added that though Boko Haram had been wiped out in areas they once took over, the terrorist group still kills and maims a large number of people leaving survivors displaced with their properties destroyed.

Professor Nwabueze believed that for the Country to be great as before and a leading Nation in Africa, they must be a change in leadership for the change to happen.

He observed that next to the issue of Boko Haram is the Fulani Herdsmen attack which dated back to 2013 where villages in various states were attacked and people were killed in cold blood till recent attacks which occurred in Benue State.

“The number of deaths is put at about 3,000 across the country. The method of attack, which is not any different from the one applied by Boko Haram insurgents, includes cutting open the stomach, beheading, slitting the throat, suicide bombing, surrounding villages and opening fire on them while asleep, etc”
