2019 Elections: INEC Chairman Says 84 million Voters Registered

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has just announced the total number of voters that are expected to participate in the upcoming elections. He made the announcement while presenting the National Register of Voters to all Political Parties in Abuja.

Mahmood explained,  “for the 2019 General Elections, the official total number of registered voters amounts to Eighty Four Million, Four Thousand, and Eighty Four (84, 004, 084).

The INEC chairman also explained that the election commission will be training about eight hundred and fifty thousand workers in preparation towards the success of the election. This number, however, includes all ad hoc staff as well, since everyone will need to be brought up-to-date. Mahmood said that the first stage of the training has already begun at Calabar today. That particular session was attended by State Training Officers as well as Assistant Training Officers from all the states in the country. The idea was to train them so that they can now train other workers at the state and local levels.
