2019: Goodluck Jonathan Lists Qualities Expected In Nigeria’a Next President

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has identified qualities that Nigeria’s next president in 2019 must possess to satisfy him and other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The ex-president said the qualities constituted the criteria for which he will support any candidate for the presidency.

Jonathan said that the next president must have sufficient exposure, not be a bigot or have extremist tendency, and possess the capacity to manage a complex country like Nigeria.

The ex-president made these known on Saturday in his office in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where he received PDP presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and his presidential campaign team.

The Herald recalls that Turaki was Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs and also as Supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity under Jonathan’s administration.

Jonathan expressed confidence in Turaki’s ability to perform creditably well should he win the 2019 presidential election.

The former president disclosed that himself and other PDP leaders had been in a series of consultations to ensure the emergence of a vibrant, credible and highly competent leader based on the criteria he listed.

“Whenever your name (Turaki’s) comes up, there had been no doubts created about you on any of the criteria unlike in some others,” Jonathan said.

He further thanked Turaki for supporting his administration with qualitative performance.
