Former Labour Party (LP) presidential aspirant, Faduri Joseph, has accused the party’s leadership of betrayal, claiming his 2023 presidential ambition was deliberately sabotaged to make way for Peter Obi.
In a strongly worded statement released on Saturday, Faduri, who now leads the Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria, said he has resolved to run for the 2027 presidency, urging Nigerians to embrace a generational shift in leadership.
Faduri alleged that key LP figures, including Julius Abure, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, and Abayomi Arabambi, conspired to oust him from the presidential race just days before the party’s primary election in Asaba.

“The presidential ticket was sold to Mr Peter Obi despite the fact that my team and I were the ones who rebuilt the party from scratch,” Faduri said. “What is happening in the Labour Party today is poetic justice—karma for the injustice and deceit that was done to us in 2022.”
He claimed the Labour Party was “a dead structure” before he and his supporters joined. “No plan, no preparation, no hope,” he said, recalling how he invested time and resources to revive the party’s relevance before Obi’s entry.
Faduri also revealed that before turning to the Labour Party, he had aligned with the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), but claimed the platform was hijacked by Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso after his groundwork.
Despite what he described as political betrayal, Faduri said he chose not to legally challenge the 2022 events out of a sense of patriotism and unity.
With the 2027 election cycle approaching, Faduri is positioning himself as a candidate for a new political era, calling for the youth and progressives to rally behind a leadership reset in Nigeria.
