Dr. Jibril Mustapha, President of the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation and former leader of the Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO), has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued Sunday in Lagos, Mustapha appealed to Jonathan to heed growing calls for his return to leadership, citing the country’s current economic and security challenges.
“As the nation prepares for the 2027 elections, the Nigeria Rescue Mission Organisation believes that now is the time for all stakeholders to unite behind a candidate who can genuinely represent the interests of all Nigerians,” Mustapha said. “We urge former President Goodluck Jonathan to consider this call and step forward as a unifying leader who can guide us towards a brighter future.”

He highlighted issues such as economic hardship, widespread insecurity, unemployment, and rampant banditry as urgent concerns requiring experienced leadership. According to Mustapha, Nigeria is at a crossroads and needs a leader with integrity, inclusivity, and a firm commitment to national unity.
Reflecting on Jonathan’s previous tenure, Mustapha said the former president demonstrated a strong commitment to democratic values and governance focused on the welfare of all citizens.
“Jonathan has the vision and experience necessary to lead Nigeria through these turbulent times,” he added.
