A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has suggested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not contest the 2027 presidential election and hinted that former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, could soon make a major announcement regarding his political future.
In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, Eze—an ally of Amaechi and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New PDP—said Nigerians are increasingly reaching out to him to inquire about Amaechi’s interest in running for president in the next general election.
“On a daily basis, I receive calls asking whether Amaechi is ready to run in 2027, whether he has interest, and what his political direction is,” Eze said.

He criticized the current administration under President Tinubu, accusing it of focusing on consolidating power instead of addressing the country’s pressing challenges such as insecurity, inflation, and food shortages.
“A government whose focus is to manipulate the process to retain power in 2027 has failed. Leadership is not about forcefully clinging to power—it’s about solving problems,” he stated.
Eze said many Nigerians believe Amaechi’s leadership experience makes him a viable option to rescue the country from its current hardships.
“Amaechi is a pride to Nigeria. His public service record positions him as an ideal presidential material. He’s someone who would sacrifice anything to make the country work,” he added.
He also raised the possibility that international developments could impact Tinubu’s 2027 ambitions, referencing an alleged case file on the President in the United States.
“2027 will come with surprises. Tinubu may not even be in a position to contest if the U.S. releases the alleged file. Even without that, the failure of his administration should dissuade any thoughts of re-election,” Eze said.
While Amaechi has yet to formally declare any intentions for 2027, Eze’s remarks have further fueled speculation about a potential comeback bid by the former Rivers governor and presidential aspirant.
