Oliseh’s Resignation: Jay Jay Okocha To Join Eagles Bench Against Egypt

2 Min Read

Football-loving Nigerian’s were given a rude shock in the early hours of Friday when they learnt that Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh had resigned over issues ranging from non-payment of  his salaries and his assistants’, violation of contract agreements, to sacking of his aide, Tijani Babangida, who is also a former international.

The situation was even more distressing given that the country is preparing for an all-important CAF Nations Cup qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

However, all may not be lost as the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has tipped former international, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha and two other experienced coaches to form a consortium to lead the Eagles into the game, Vanguard reports.

The other coaches, according to the report, are Shuaibu Amodu, the Director of Sports Development and former coach of the team, and Salisu Yusuf, an assistant to Oliseh who also has a wealth of experience in the Nigerian league.

It was gathered that the choice of Okocha to be on the bench was influenced by the deep respect he enjoys from the boys and Nigerians in general, while Amodu was chosen for the many times he has been called upon to rescue Nigeria in difficult circumstances.
