A 24-year-old woman, Anastasia Deyeva, has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Interior for Ukraine.
Although Deyeva’s appointment was declared on Monday, rumours had been circulating in Ukraine since Thursday.
Deyeva, who made her name by posing nude and working for a Russian-backed party, was a surprise-pick whose name was found on the ministry’s official website on Monday, confirming the rumours.
Politicians are shocked; not just because she is young, but also because they think she is inexperienced.
She had also posted naked pictures of herself on social media sites and later worked as an assistant in the Party of Regions of the deposed Moscow-backed president Viktor Yanukovych.
That group has been disbanded but Deyeva’s star has only soared.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry is very important and sensitive because it oversees part of the conflict going on with Russian-backed separatists in Eastern Ukraine.
