24yr Old Charged With Murder of Retired Police Captain During George Floyd Protests

A 24 yr old African American has been charged with the murder of retired police captain, David Dorn in St Louis.

Officials with the St Louis Circuit Attorney’s office charged 24yr old Stephan Cannon with first degree murder of Captain Dorn.

David Dorn was killed at a jewelry and pawnshop while responding to a burglary alarm.

Security footage of the store showed seven men looting the store as the George Floyd protests raged, two of them were armed with guns.

The retired police captain was found on the sidewalk in front of the store with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.

Cannon was also charged with Robbery, burglary, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The charge sheet said the surveillance camera caught Cannon in company of other people walk into the store from a Pontiac G6 after which they stole some televisions. At a point during the Robbery, Cannon was seen standing alone on a corner outside the store when the retired police captain arrived.

The video further showed Cannon point a gun at Dorn who fell to the sidewalk.

According to witnesses at the scene, someone told the people inside to leave after the shots were fired. Police found 9mm shell casings at the scene of the murder.

After his arrest, Cannon said he cut his hair to avoid being recognised after police released pictures from the surveillance tape to the public.

He was identified by an eye witness while the police also found one of the televisions he stole from the pawnshop in his home at the time of his arrest.

The circuit Attorney Kimberly Gardner announced that charges had been issued and no bond was allowed for the 24yr old.

Police also arrested and charged 27yr old Jimmie Robinson with burglary, armed criminal action and stealing. How bond was set to $30,000 cash only.

The retired police captain spent 38 years with the St Louis Metropolitan Police department before becoming the police chief in Molina Acres.
