2face’s ex-manager canvasses stringent policies against piracy

Mr Efe Omorogbe, 2face’s former manager on Friday urged the Federal Government to introduce stringent measures to protect creative artistes’ works against piracy.

Omorogbe, also the Chief Executive Officer, `Now Music’, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that such a policy would boost both the revenue and income of the government and artistes.

According to him, piracy which is similar to oil theft, has denied the government and artistes millions of naira in revenue and income.

“There is more awareness about the dangers of piracy, but it has not translated to lesser occurrences.

“Government has instruments of the law; they are doing their best, but they have to realise that protecting intellectual property is as important as protecting oil installations, pipelines and refineries.

“Government should please extend same strategies of protection of those oil facilities to protecting works of artistes in the country.

“When the government pays the required attention to the protection of creative industry against activities of pirates in the country, I am sure things will improve significantly,’’ Omorogbe said.

On getting 2face, Blackface and Face to do a song together as the Plantation Boiz did for their fans, he said, “I cannot decide for them’’.

He said that they were all adults, therefore he could not insist they did a “colabo’’.

“As to whether I can encourage them to put up a project together again as Plantation Boiz, I think it is a decision for them to make.

“However, I do not think it is impossible.

“If the three of them decide they want to do a song as the Plantation Boiz reunion, nobody can stop them; it is strictly their decision,’’ he said.

Omorogbe noted that his relationship with them had been of a colleague and friend in music industry. (NAN)
