3 docked over alleged assault, membership of secret cult

Three men were on Friday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy, assault and membership of an unlawful society.

The defendants, Kamorudeen Oseni, 26; Samuel Alabi, 21; and Owolabi Mathew, 20, all residents of Ajah, Lagos State, are facing a three-count charge.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 17, at  11.00p.m., on Chevron Estate Gate, Lekki, Ajah.

Nwangwu said that the defendants and others still at large conspired and assaulted one Mr Mohammed Momah by using a scissors to inflict injuries on his mouth and other parts of his body.

“The trio assaulted the complainant by stabbing him with a scissors causing him bodily harm.

“They also conducted activities of an unlawful society known as Eiye confraternity, ” Nwangwu said.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 42, 56 (b), and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate,  Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in the like sum.

Aje-Afunwa ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and possess evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until July 25 for mention. (NAN)
