3 Men Land In Prison For Possession Of Fake Currency

A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced three unemployed men to one year imprisonment each for being in possession of 13 pieces of one thousand naira counterfeit currency.

The convicts, Sadiku Ashiru,25, Bello Ibrahim, 24, and Ibrahim Nura,25, all of Danbatta Local Government, Kano, were arraigned on a one-count charge.

Chief Magistrate Muhammad Idris, who sentenced the convicts after the defendants pleaded guilty, gave them an option to pay a fine of N20,000 each.

Prosecutor Badamasi Gawuna told the court that Umar Maishayi, Ubale Isah and Sale Ibrahim of Bichi Local Government Area reported the case to Bichi Police Division Kano on Jan. 31.

Gawuna said a team of police men led by Cpl. Idris Mamman attached to Bichi Police Division, Kano, arrested the convicts on the same date.

He said that the convicts were in possession of N13,000 currency notes suspected to be counterfeit contrary to Section 369 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
