’35 killed’ as bandits lay siege to Zamfara communities

No fewer than 35 persons have been reported killed when bandits invaded five communities in Faru district, Maradun local government area of Zamfara State.

The affected communities are Gudan-Baushi, Gidan-Adamu,Gudan-Maidawa, Tsauni, and Wari .

It was learnt that the attack lasted several hours from Thursday night into the wee hours of Friday.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mohammed Shehu confirmed the incident on Friday.

Shehu, who put the death toll at 35, said that police personnel could not get to the scene of the incident on time.

The police spokesman said that the police were however working tirelessly to bring the culprits to justice.

However, a community source that preferred anonymity said that 42 bodies have so far been recovered by security and volunteer groups in the area.

According to the community source, the attack commenced around 11 pm on Thursday.

“They were shooting sporadically at people they came across in the five communities.

“They also attacked farmers who were in their farmlands cultivating their crops,” The Punch quoted the source to have said.
