Over 60,000 Candidates To Re-Write JAMB – Examination Board

The Joint Examination and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has delisted a total of 62,140 candidates and some computer-based centres, CBT, from board examination over organised examination malpractice and other offences.

The examination board revealed that over 60,000 candidates of the examination will have the opportunity to retake the examniation come July 1.

The board while speaking through its registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, revealed that a total of 24 centres have been suspended for a period of one year due to technical issues adding that the affected centres may consider re-application fro validation and consideration in 2019.

The registrar of JAMB at a press briefing after the board’s management meeting in Abuja on Wednesday noted that a total of 62,140 cancelled results were recorded. The numbers include 57,646 candidates in centres-induced malpractice, 3,811 late registration, and 683 candidates who had biometric challenges.

The board further revealed that results belonging to another 2,052 individual candidates were cancelled on grounds of culpable of examination malpractice.

He added that the JAMB management has also approved the “delisting of forty-eight (48) centres from participating in the board’s examination in future as a result of serious technical deficiencies, extortion, organised examination malpractice and other damaging infractions.”

Following the management meeting, Ishaq Oloyede noted that the rescheduled examination was for candidates of centres with mass malpractice but who were deemed innocent.

“The rescheduling of examination is for: biometric non verification machine related issues, technical and log out issues, late registration, malfunctioning of servers at the centre and incomplete results.”

The board further revealed that it recorded the highest number of registrations in the last examination as a total of 1,722,236 candidates registered for the 2017 unified Tertiary Matriculation Board.
