A Melbourne man who fatally attacked his Airbnb visitor because of 210 Australian dollars (150 dollars) in unpaid rent has been jailed for seven years and six months, the Victorian Supreme Court said on Wednesday.

Craig Levy, 37, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Ramis Jonuzi, who died in October 2017 after an unprovoked sustained assault at Levy’s home in Brighton East, a southern suburb of Melbourne.

“Levy will spend at least four years and six months behind bars before he is eligible for parole,’’ the Court said.

Levy and his friends attacked Jonuzi, 36, who was staying at Levy’s property and had extended his stay.

He was beaten after he was unable to pay for the extension.

“Jonuzi died later from compression of the neck and blunt-force trauma to the head.

“The victim was kicked and punched until he lost consciousness inside the home, the court was told.

“The beating continued outside as well,’’ the court was told recently during a plea hearing.

The argument was allegedly started by Jason Colton, a friend of Levy, who is due to stand trial for Jonuzi’s murder in 2019.

Report says one more attacker is set to be sentenced later. (dpa/NAN)
