A Sunday Prayer For The Treasury Looter

4 Min Read

They say the cost of success is eternal vigilance, maybe that’s why Africa’s richest man told Bloomberg he hardly gets 4 hours sleep per day.

But what’s more mind boggling is how some of Africa’s richest politicians including some of former President Jonathan’s ministers and allies are getting any sleep at all.

Kaduna governor El Rufai told the New York Times a Jonathanian era minister offered him #50 billion to please help him return to the National Treasury.

One barely gets to grasp the graft ambition that is planted into the DNA of the political elite, an armed robber may steal #117 million or even #850,000 and be paranoid and mentally imbalanced for a long period of life. But the level of mental illness one has to have to walk away from a country you are supposed to serve with multi million and multi billion dollar bonanza can only be found in the black man in the 21st century. No wonder they call Nigeria, the giant of Africa.

To be honest it’s only a testament to the fact that Africa is still contending with the darkest demons facing mankind. Demons that cannot bleach.

Alamieyeseighya lost his life due to being haunted by these same demons at least that is the general consensus of social commentators in all nook and cranny of this country.

These are men and women whose only legacy to the Nigerian people are billions of dollars in seized assets and hard cash in locales from Beverly Hills to Zurich.

A breed of leaders that so impoverished their people that Nigerians export prostitution and illicit drugs to locales from Dubai to Rio DE Janeiro whilst their own children, lackeys, partners and hangers on celebrate in clubs from Leeds to Malibu with champagne showers and high priced escorts.

It’s a testament to the level of decay in Nigeria that a ministerial candidate will use legal mumbo jumbo to explain away to the people how N78 million website design projects that could cost less than a tenth of the award amount are justified. And there is not any outcry. #78 million is not enough stealing to raise our eyebrows, we seem to say under the trance.

A senator and ex governor will tell you that he is merely going to pay a friendly visit to the folks at the EFCC despite weighty allegations of fraud and embezzlement.

If Lagos so well governed for 8 years, then how did a new administrator manage to wreck it in so short a time.

Nigeria these are interesting times but it appears the power of social media will force change in Nigeria. The real change is not Buhari Osinbajo but in the mindset of the people. We are speaking out and the world is listening. We have transited from the times of Dele Giwa. Yes there is a plan to muzzle  some elements on social media but truth is Nigerian leaders will not be able to muzzle the frustrations of the people. And the international media is paying attention to Nigeria on many fronts. Our liberation is at hand but we must wield it.

For the thieves, looters, and their enablers, your 99 days are almost up. Sadly many of you will never bow out gracefully due to the blood crying from the ground. Blood spilled due to the effects of your actions because of the power vested in you and inactions in spite of the power vested in you.

May God have mercy on your soul!
