Aba: Soldiers Allegedly Confiscate Pro-Biafra Papers

Eyewitnesses on Tuesday in Aba, Abia State spoke of how military personnel believed to be attached to the 144 Battalion quartered in Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, invaded a newspaper’s office along St. Michaels’s Road, and carted away newspapers from vendors plying their trade in the area.

St. Michael’s Road is believed to be the newspaper hub of the entire Aba.

The papers seized by the soldiers who were said to have come in 2 Toyota Hilux vehicles were unsold and new editions of New Republic, Vesym, Freedom Journal and some copies of Authority newspapers.

The incident, which occurred in the morning, was believed to have been carried out on the papers that carried pro-Biafra stories.

It was gathered that after dumping the newspapers into their vehicles, they threatened to arrest the publishers of the newspapers.

Military authorities are yet to issue a statement on the alleged seizures.
