Abia Govt Denies Viral Report Attributed to Governor Otti on Lagos
The Abia State government has dismissed a viral social media report alleging that Governor Alex Otti said he had “no business with Lagos” and would make the state “look like a village.”
The statement, which trended online under the caption “Governor Otti fires back over demolition of Igbo businesses,” claimed the governor had declared: “I am not competing with Lagos. My competition is China and Dubai. By the time I’m done with Abia, Lagos will look like a village.”
But in a response on Sunday night, Otti’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, described the comments as false and politically motivated. He said the governor “detests garrulous and childish showmanship” and could not have issued a statement that “bears the signature of arrogance, thoughtlessness, and divisiveness.”
Ekeoma stressed that Governor Otti enjoys a long-standing personal relationship with his Lagos counterpart, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, adding that both men communicate directly and cordially.
He accused unnamed “desperate politicians” of fabricating the report to mislead the public, linking them to petitions and inciting articles circulated ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to commission projects in Abia State.
The Abia government urged the public to disregard the viral claims, describing them as baseless propaganda.
