How Abuja Taxi Driver Spent N1.8million He Stole From Passenger

An Abuja taxi driver has been arrested for robbing one of his passengers of the sum of N1.8 million.

The driver identified as Muritala Olugunju, 38, was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, SIRT for robbing one Mohammed who requested his services during a visit to Abuja.

Olagunju, the driver, according to report was said to have picked his passenger, Mohammed at Wuse Zone 6 area of Abuja for shopping, the two thereafter proceeded to the hotel where Mohammed was to lodge in, Olagunju however absconded with his client’s properties as soon as he alighted to book for a room.

Olagunju was reported to have drove off before his passenger was done booking a room at the hotel. Mohammed immediately alerted the IRT upon his discovery which led to the arrest of the taxi driver weeks later.

Olagunju who blamed his action on the devol narrated how he spent the money. He said:
“I gave N200, 000 to my girlfriend and I also gave my sister N80, 000.

“Then I bought a car for myself which I intended to use for my business, but before I knew what was happening, I was arrested.

“I regret doing this and I hope my passenger will forgive me,” the suspect pleaded, adding that the devil pushed him to commit the crime.”

On what informed his decision to make away with the properties, Olagunju said: “I suspected Mohammed was carrying cash because I had been monitoring him in the course of our trip and noticed that he did not once visit the bank nor use an ATM.”
