Actor Stanley Ontop Alleges Mercy Chinwo Behind VeryDarkMan’s Arrest

Nigerian filmmaker and actor Stanley Ajemba, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, has alleged that gospel singer Mercy Chinwo orchestrated the recent arrest of outspoken social media personality, VeryDarkMan.

In a post shared via Instagram on Sunday, Stanley Ontop responded to reports linking the arrest to GTBank, dismissing the claims and instead pointing fingers at Chinwo. According to him, the singer, who recently filed a defamation lawsuit against VeryDarkMan, was behind the action.

“GTBank is not responsible for VDM’s arrest at their premises. Mercy Chinwo is responsible for the arrest of VDM,” he wrote. “Church is another government agency that uses our police, EFCC or military to intimidate citizens. Mercy Chinwo is the problem now, not GTBank.”

VeryDarkMan, born Martins Vincent Otse, was arrested on Friday, May 2, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after visiting a GTBank branch in Abuja with his mother to report alleged unauthorized deductions from her account. The exact circumstances of his arrest remain unclear, though multiple sources suggest he was apprehended at or near the bank premises.

The arrest has since sparked a wave of reactions across social media, with fans and celebrities—including Davido—calling for his release.

Mercy Chinwo has yet to publicly respond to the allegation as of press time.
