The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere went ahead to suspend one of its members, Iyiola Omisore, for a period of 12 Months.
The reason for the suspension, according to the Punch, allegedly was his support for the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the last Osun state election.
Recall that Omisore was running for the Governorship post under the Social Democratic Party but later on endorsed Gboyega Oyetola.
In the elections that initially held, Oyetola was pitted against Ademola Adeleke of the PDP and it seeemed that Adeleke won.

The elections were deemed inconclusive after it was determined that the margin with which Adeleke was ahead by was less than the number of votes that were deemed invalid.
This necessitated a by-election.
Oyetola won the second election much to the alarm of many election observers who claimed that the polling was rigged.
There were many reports at the time that Omisore’s endorsement of Oyetola went a long way in winning APC the election
Afenifere and the SDP were displeased with Omisore’s actions and he was roundly criticised.
The decision to suspend the Senator was reached at the monthly meeting of the Afenifere, held at the residence of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, Ondo state.
In a statement read at the meeting, the pan-Yoruba group suspended Omisore for allegedly going against the interests of the group in the last election.
The statement said: ” The meeting took a decision to suspend Senator Iyiola Omisore for one year for violating Afenifere’s directive which affected the outcome of Osun election.”
