Africa records first coronavirus case

The first confirmed coronavirus case on the African continent has been recorded in Egypt.

The North African country’s Health and Population ministries confirmed this in a joint statement on Friday.

According to the statement, the patient had not displayed any “symptoms”.

Although his nationality was not given, the patient was identified as a foreigner.

Egyptian authorities said they have notified the World Health Organisation (WHO) about the coronavirus case, while the patient has been placed in isolation in a health facility for treatment and monitoring.
