Aisha vs Daura : Beyond a Family Feud- Israel Ayegba  Ebije

Nigerians have been dished with meals of dramas served from a boiling pot of the “First” lady Aisha  Buhari flavoured by her estranged in-laws – the Daura’s. Until 2015 it has never been witnessed in the history of Nigeria to have private affairs of First Ladies in the public space. It is indeed safe to say, Hajiya Buhari has been battling “familiar spirits” hunting her “constitutional” duties as a First Lady.

From the vibes coming out of the Sabre- rattling fast tearing Hajiya Buhari and her stronghold on her husband and prebend of monarchical democracy practised in Nigeria, it is safe to say, the embattled wife of Nigerian President is protecting personal interests. Her wailing should be dismissed as a regular occurrence with married African women and their in-laws. There is however a snag somewhere, which makes the matter interesting as questions of whether her husband is oblivious or powerless in dealing with a matter as simple as a family quarrel.

Therefore, the major takeaway in the continuous battle of supremacy or relevance between Aisha and her in-laws is the fact that President Buhari is either a fence seater, indifferent or powerless to his own family affairs. It also proves that Aisha has no confidence her husband can manage the crisis, hence her decision to take her private matter to the public court. Where all these concerns an average Nigerian is a situation these “powerful” men and women spread their tentacles to deploy their power to rule Nigeria by proxy.

Aisha whose nightmare is President Buhari’s relative, Mamman Daura has sounded severally that this individual and a cherry-picked few are the ones actually ruling Nigeria. The recent outburst bordering on abolishing her office of the “First Lady” without the approval of her husband, using a presidential spokesman acting on Instruction should make Nigerians worry.

It is therefore safe for Nigerians to conclude that President Buhari has become a “codename” used by some forces to satisfy narrow interests. A look at political appointments, trends of federal government job employment, unlawful service elongation for overdue military chiefs, permanent secretaries and the collapse of social and economic order shows a lot is wrong with the Buhari led administration regarding its purpose and direction. There are indeed a lot of security, economic and political implications from the noise generated by Aisha’s recent travail…

Let me start with the security implication of Aisha Buhari’s allegation against Garba Shehu,  a media aide to the president. She has detailed how the presidential media aide decided to take presidential orders from a private individual. This revelation only suggests the presidency may be in the wrong hands. This revelation has thrown more light in the recent scandalous display of thuggery in court by the Department of State Security (DSS) operatives in Omoleye Sowore re-arrest. It is becoming illuminating that there are dark forces in the presidency using institutions as they please.

Analyzing the economic implication of proxies ruling Nigeria on behalf of Buhari with strong institutional support has led Nigeria nowhere in the area of development. Notable financial institutions of global reputation have warned that Nigeria slides towards an economic cul-de-sac. Those exerting presidential influence on behest of Buhari are there to satisfy personal gains. Nigeria can borrow all the money in the world and everything will drain into private pockets. That is why corruption has gone all-time high under this administration.

Looking at the political negatives, it is a fact that the powers directing affairs of Buhari’s administration will never allow a fair electoral process as seen most recently in Kogi state. They cannot afford to allow a government that will unravel the ghastly sabotage unleashed by them to take over. They are also aware that without Buhari, they are of no significance in the affairs of the nation as far as competence or patriotism is concerned. No wonder the third term gambit.

The wife of President Buhari is seeing what many Nigerians are not privileged to know. She has tacitly exposed her husband is not in charge. She has in no confusing terms explained that her husband is a tenant in the cradle of those who are effectively manipulating him to feather their bigoted and ethnic-based interests.

Aisha who is more concerned about fighting dirty against her “familiar family spirits” to consolidate power is unintentionally doing Nigeria big favour. I strongly believe this government has reached its height of infamy. Going forward, it’s payback time. The cookies are crumbling already. The system they have used four years to destroy with hate propaganda, segregation, sectionalism,  ethnic and religious sentiments, nepotism, is about to hit the iceberg. In the end, may good thrive against evil.
